Designing a great house exterior
Curb appeal is decided fast - buyers and guests form an impression before they reach the door, and most of it comes from composition rather than cost. The classic formula is a three-color palette: a quiet field color for the siding, a contrasting trim, and one confident accent on the front door. More colors than that and the house starts to argue with itself.
After color, the entry is where attention lands. A clear path to the door, flanking light fixtures at the right scale, readable house numbers and healthy foundation plantings tell visitors exactly where to go and that the home is cared for. Maintenance is the invisible design layer: clean gutters, a sound roof and washed siding do more for looks than any ornament.
