The best interior design apps for iPhone in 2026, by job

By RivAI Team · · 11 min read

The short answer

The best interior design app for iPhone depends on the job. Use Planner 5D or Live Home 3D for 3D room plans, magicplan for LiDAR scans and measurements, the IKEA app to place furniture, ColorSnap for paint, Houzz for ideas and pros, and an AI photo redesign app such as DecAI or RivAI to restyle a photo.

What's the best interior design app for iPhone?

There isn't one best interior design app for iPhone, because these apps answer different questions. 3D planners such as Planner 5D and Live Home 3D draw a room to scale so you can check what fits. LiDAR scanners like magicplan measure the real room and turn it into a plan with numbers. IKEA's app drops its own furniture into your space, Sherwin-Williams ColorSnap puts paint on your walls, and Houzz is where you browse ideas and find local pros.

AI photo redesign apps (RivAI, HomeGPT, DecAI, Interior design by Home AI and AI Remodel) restyle a photo of the room you already have. They're good at showing a look and useless for measuring. So pick by the question you need answered: will it fit, what will the work cost, or what will it look like? The table sorts each app by job, with US prices from each App Store listing or official page, checked October 2026.

Which apps are best for floor plans and 3D room design?

Reach for a 3D planner when your question is whether things fit. You set the room's dimensions, add doors and windows, drop in furniture, then look at it from any angle. All three below are free to download and sell subscriptions for their bigger features.

Planner 5D

Planner 5D handles 2D and 3D plans, camera-based 3D room capture and an AI design generator that works from photos or plans. Its App Store listing shows a free download with in-app purchases from $6.99 to $399.99, including $19.99 a month or $69.99 a year (checked October 2026). It travels well: the app covers iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro, and Planner 5D's site offers a free browser editor plus support for Android phones.

The trade-off is setup time. Expect to spend an evening drawing walls, doors and windows before the 3D view resembles your actual room.

Live Home 3D

Live Home 3D covers 2D and 3D plans, AR viewing, AI renders and a LiDAR room scanner. Its App Store listing has the most flexible pricing of the three: Standard at $19.99 a year, Pro at $39.99 a year, plus lifetime options (checked October 2026). One catch. The room scanner only works on devices with LiDAR, so on other iPhones you'll draw the walls yourself.

Homestyler

Homestyler builds 3D plans from photos, previews furniture in AR and adds AI design tools. Its App Store listing shows in-app purchases such as $9.99 a month, $69.99 for 12 months and a separate AI Membership at $19.99 a month (checked October 2026). With two kinds of subscription in one app, read what each tier includes before you pay, so you don't buy the plan that leaves out the feature you came for.

Which iPhone app can scan and measure a room?

LiDAR is a depth sensor built into some iPhone and iPad models, and it's what makes a quick, measured room scan possible. Check your device's tech specs before you pay for a scanning feature, since several apps here save their best scans for LiDAR hardware.

magicplan

magicplan is built for measuring. Its App Store subtitle reads "AR and LiDAR Scanning", and it turns a camera scan into a measured plan, then into cost estimates. The App Store listing prices it for renovation work: free to download, then Sketch at $12.99 a month or $129.99 a year, Report at $39.99 a month and Estimate at $89.99 a month (checked October 2026). That's contractor money for someone choosing a sofa.

It runs on iPhone, iPad and Vision Pro, and magicplan's help center lists an Android download too. If you're planning a kitchen or bathroom remodel with a contractor, the estimate features earn their price. For one bedroom, a tape measure is cheaper.

IKEA app and IKEA Kreativ

The free IKEA app lets you scan your room and add IKEA products to it. Its Kreativ feature needs LiDAR for a full-room scan. Without LiDAR you get a wide-angle photo scan instead, with an eraser that clears existing furniture out of the picture (IKEA help page). Kreativ also works on Android phones, and you can pick a design up again in a browser later.

The limit is obvious: only IKEA products go in the room. That's ideal for checking whether a wardrobe or sofa fits the wall you have, and much less useful if you're mixing brands.

Which app shows paint colors on your own walls?

Sherwin-Williams ColorSnap Visualizer is the paint visualizer to start with if you're already leaning toward that brand. Its "Instant Paint" mode puts colors on your walls live with AR. It can also match a color from a photo you take, and it has a paint calculator for quantities. You'll find it on iPhone and Android phones.

Brand lock-in is the trade-off, since you're picking from one company's colors. Phone screens also shift color with your room's light, so treat any match as a shortlist. A good habit: buy two or three samples, paint swatches about 2 x 2 ft (60 x 60 cm), and look at them in the morning and at night before you commit.

Is there an app where you can take a picture of a room and remodel it?

Yes. AI photo redesign apps take one photo of your room and return a restyled version, and some let you edit single surfaces or erase objects afterwards. They're quick for comparing looks. None of the five below measures your room, so a render can't tell you whether a sofa fits. If you'd rather describe a room in words, using ChatGPT for interior design covers what a general chatbot handles well and where it falls short.

AppWeeklyYearlyOther options (US, checked October 2026)
AI Remodel$4.99-$11.99$64.99$24.99/month; premium subscription needed for features
DecAI$5.99-$9.99$14.99-$59.99$49.99 lifetime
HomeGPT$7.99$39.99Credit packs
Interior design by Home AI$8.99$39.99$19.99/month; results stay blurred without a subscription
RivAI$9.99$39.99 (3-day free trial)2 free designs per install, watermarked; US prices at time of writing

Weekly plans add up fast. Home AI's App Store listing shows $8.99 a week against $39.99 a year, and 52 weeks at $8.99 comes to $467.48 (checked October 2026). The same math applies to every app in the table, RivAI included. Pay weekly only for a short, one-room project, and set a reminder to cancel.

AI Remodel

AI Remodel focuses on renovation previews: redesign from a photo, object removal, and wall and floor previews. It's iPhone only, and its App Store listing says a premium subscription is needed for features, so plan on paying to get much out of it. Here's how AI Remodel and RivAI compare.

DecAI

DecAI restyles rooms from a photo and also furnishes empty rooms, handles exteriors and gardens, and lists a floor-plan feature. It runs on iPhone and iPad. Its App Store listing shows weekly plans from $5.99 to $9.99, yearly from $14.99 to $59.99 and a $49.99 lifetime option, the only lifetime deal among these five (checked October 2026). For the feature-by-feature details, see DecAI vs RivAI.

HomeGPT

HomeGPT restyles a room from a photo and can turn a plan of your space into a furnished 3D view. Its App Store listing shows $7.99 a week, $39.99 a year and credit packs on iPhone and iPad (checked October 2026). Several unrelated apps and websites share the HomeGPT name, so match the developer on that listing before you download.

Interior design by Home AI

Interior design by Home AI, from APPVIZYON, is a photo redesign app for iPhone. Its App Store listing shows $8.99 a week, $19.99 a month or $39.99 a year, and results stay blurred until you subscribe (checked October 2026). Lookalike apps use the Home AI name too, including a different Home AI from HUBX, so check the developer before you pay.

RivAI (our app)

RivAI is ours, so read this one with that in mind. It restyles photos of interiors, exteriors and gardens, with 43 styles and 11 tools. You get 2 free designs per install, and free results carry a watermark. Pro is $9.99 a week or $39.99 a year (US prices at time of writing), with a 3-day free trial on the annual plan only. There's no 3D, no floor plans, no AR and no measurements, and it's iPhone and iPad only.

How does RivAI fit next to a 3D planner?

Use the two for different questions. A planner tells you whether an 84 in (213 cm) sofa fits the wall; RivAI shows what a new style could look like on a photo of the room you're standing in. Here's what you tap:

  1. Take a sharp photo of the room in daylight, standing straight on to the main wall.
  2. Pick the room type, such as Dining Room or Living Room.
  3. Choose one of 43 styles, from Mediterranean to Mid-Century.
  4. Select Keep Structure to hold walls, windows and layout in place, or Full Renovation if you want bigger changes.
  5. Generate. A Standard result takes about 30 seconds, and the before/after slider lets you compare it with your photo.
  6. Use Paint on one surface (walls, ceiling, cabinets, doors, trim or siding) and type the hex code from your paint chip into the color picker.
  7. Brush over clutter with Remove Objects, then save the result to Photos.

The honest limit: you get a picture, not a plan. RivAI doesn't measure rooms, draw floor plans, build 3D views or use AR, so pair it with a planner or scanner whenever sizes matter. Free results carry a watermark, and there's no Android or web version. The AI interior design tool page shows more sample redesigns.

What app do interior designers use?

We couldn't find reliable public figures on which app interior designers use most, so we won't guess at a ranking. Professionals commonly draft in desktop CAD and 3D modeling software, then reach for phone apps for the quick jobs: measuring a site, saving references, sharing a mood with a client. If you want a designer rather than their tools, Houzz is the place to start.

Houzz

Houzz is free on iPhone and iPad and does three things: photo ideas, a directory of local pros, and shopping. It won't plan or render your own room. Save the rooms you like, then hand that board to a designer, or use the photos as a reference in a planner or an AI app.

Which one should you pick?

  • Renting and just want a new look? An AI photo redesign app is a quick way to compare styles before you buy a single cushion.
  • Buying a sofa or wardrobe: measure first with magicplan or IKEA Kreativ, because a render can't tell you if it fits through the door.
  • Planning a remodel with a contractor: magicplan's estimate plans are built for that job, and Planner 5D or Live Home 3D handle full 3D layouts.
  • Choosing paint? ColorSnap, then real samples on the wall.
  • On Android? Planner 5D, magicplan, the IKEA app and ColorSnap all run there. RivAI doesn't.
  • Hiring someone: start on Houzz.

FAQ

Which AI app is best for interior design?

Pick by the edits you need after the first render (repainting one surface, removing objects, keeping the layout) and by what the free option lets you save. Our [ranking of AI interior design apps](/guides/best-ai-interior-design-apps-2026) puts iPhone apps and web tools side by side, with styles, tools and published prices for each.

What design app does Joanna Gaines use?

We couldn't find a public, verifiable source naming a design app Joanna Gaines uses, so we won't guess. If that's the style you're after, save rooms you like on Houzz, or get a modern farmhouse look in RivAI with the Rustic or French Country styles.

What's the best free interior design app?

Planner 5D, Live Home 3D, Homestyler and magicplan are free to download with paid upgrades, while the IKEA app and Houzz are listed as free. AI redesign apps give little away: some blur results, others watermark a couple of tries. Our list of [free AI interior design apps](/blog/free-ai-interior-design-apps) shows what each one actually includes.

What is the 3-5-7 rule in interior design?

It's a styling rule of thumb: group decor in odd numbers, such as three, five or seven pieces, because odd groups tend to look more relaxed than pairs. Vary height and texture within the group, and keep one common thread, like color or material, so it reads as one arrangement.
